How I Learned to Snap, my first book — a memoir about being openly gay in a small Virginia high school.


Snap Into Schools, a project to place copies of “How I Learned to Snap” in schools, libraries and queer youth organizations around the country.


Smack Dab, an open mic cohosted by Larry-bob Roberts and Kirk Read since 2003. Happens third Wednesdays of every month at 8pm. One featured performer each month. Free. Five minute limit, however you want to fill that time. Happens at Magnet, which is at 4122 18th Street between Collingwood and Castro.


K’vetsh is the longest running queer open mic in San Francisco, possibly beyond. Cohosted by Tara Jepsen and Kirk Read. Happens first Sundays of every month at 9pm. Two featured performers every month. $3-5 donation requested, no one turned away. Sadie’s Flying Elephant is at the corner of Potrero and Mariposa (between 17th and 18th). 5 minute limit, either one piece, five minutes of a longer piece or five haiku.


Sex Workers Art Show, a touring group of current and former sex workers who perform a cabaret show in 35 cities around the United States.


Army of Lovers, a fiscally sponsored project of the Queer Cultural Center. I founded this project to instigate more queer male performance in San Francisco.
